Additional category-specific advice for posting in Buy & Sell

Updated this week

As well as what is documented on our General Posting Advice page, here you will find advice for posting in Buy & Sell

Good content in Buy & Sell

  • Permitted items: Home appliances, furniture, decorations, books, collectables, garden items, office furniture, musical instruments, sports equipment, handmade goods, event tickets, food and beverages, clothing, kids’ items, jewellery, health and beauty products, free swaps, miscellaneous, cameras, audio/video, CDs/DVDs/games, computers, and mobile phones.

  • One item or bundled group per ad.

  • Include condition, size, make, model, year, and an accurate price (no dummy numbers like £1 or £999999).

  • Photos must show the actual item for sale.

  • Post items like home appliances, furniture, books, collectables, sports equipment, clothing, or jewellery in this category.

  • Limit each ad to one item or one bundled group (e.g., a set of chairs sold together).

  • Provide a clear, accurate description with details like condition, size, make, model, and year.

  • Include photos of the actual item being sold, ensuring they’re clear and high-quality, and consider using multiple angles to highlight condition and features.

  • Enter an accurate price in the designated field that reflects market value.

  • Write unique content specific to your item, highlighting at least five features or benefits.

What not to post in Buy & Sell

  • Don’t post banned items like animals, knives, bulk goods, alcohol (except fine wines), vapes, tobacco, homemade food, legal highs, medications, or restricted designer brands (e.g., Gucci, Chanel).

  • Don’t use dummy prices (e.g., £1 or £999999) to fill the field.

  • Don’t copy descriptions or photos from other ads or websites—use your own content.

  • Don’t include URLs unless you’ve paid for the upgrade (not permitted in this category).

  • Don’t post multiple ads for the same item in the same area—this is spam.

  • Don’t include unrelated people, minors, or identifiable backgrounds in photos.

Possible Refusal Reasons:

  • Unauthorised Goods/Services

Animals for sale, adoption or breeding, knives, wholesale goods, alcohol, vapes, tobacco, homemade food, legal highs, medications, or designer branded items like Gucci or Chanel.

  • Refusal for Spam

Multiple ads for the same item in one area (e.g., five ads for the same phone in London).

  • Non-English Content

Titles or descriptions are fully or partially in another language without an English translation.

  • Inconsistent Content

Details contradict each other (e.g., “iPhone” in the title, “Android” in the description; “new car” vs. “2nd hand”).

Multiple different phone numbers appear across fields, photos, or text.

  • Not Enough Information

Descriptions are too vague or lack at least five unique aspects/features/benefits (e.g., “For sale: chair” with no size, condition, or material).

  • Price Issues

Prices are significantly higher or lower than market norms for similar goods/services (e.g., a £10 car or a £1,000 haircut).

Dummy numbers are used to fill the price field (e.g., £1, £999999) instead of an accurate amount.

  • Unauthorised Content

References to risky behaviours, such as intoxication from alcohol or legal substances.

Bad language, aggressive or violent themes.
